lichtenburg mountain - 5844' - south slopes ski
january 2019
For New Years, I took Josh and AJ to Stevens Pass for some backcountry skiing, of which both Josh and I are terrible skiers but we were able to work our way up to the summit of Lichtenburg Mountain with skins on our skis without much issue. The view from the summit was glorious with the early winter snowpack covering the peaks. We ran into a few others who recognized us from the Bulger Party just a couple months prior. As we started to ski down, I ended up in the steep gully curving down directly south of the summit rather than the way we ascended on the easier slopes just to the west. This happened because one of my skis came off and continued to slide down the mountain a few hundred feet down the gully. I had to waddle through deep snow down the gully to find it. Josh and AJ ended up following me and we had a hell of a time skiing down the narrow and rough gully but still had fun. Skiing the track along Nason Creek was much smoother! This was a fun way to enjoy New Years.
