white roost canyon - 3b
october 2021
This was a fun outing on Halloween with a sweet group from Grand Junction. I met up with them on my way out to Salt Lake City so we could have two vehicles to avoid the road walk at the end. After a night BBQing and drinking, everyone dressed up in costume the following morning and we began the trek down into White Roost Canyon on a nice trail worn in over the years. The approach hike was quite scenic and soon we found ourselves in a narrow slot. There were a few rappells with the longest one being about 20 meters so we had a full 60 meter rope with us. There was an awesome pool of water at the very end I was able to stem/bridge over without getting wet. Watching the rest of the team having to wade through chest deep 35 degree water was amusing, since I was the only one tall enough to make the bridge across. We made a casual hike down the main drainage until the exit scramble appeared to the west. This scramble had some cairns marking the way and really didn't exceed 3rd class. Mostly easy slickrock slabs. Upon returning, I continued my drive north while the rest of the crew camped another night.
