mount shasta - 14162' - avalanche gully
april 2022
After a full month of preparing to sell my home in Bellingham throughout the month of March, of which my parents and a few friends came up to help me with various projects on the home, Josh and I embarked on a road trip to northern California to climb and ski mount Shasta. We intended to then continue onwards to Colorado where I would return home to Grand Junction, and Josh would go to Denver. Once I had the home 100% ready to turn over to my realtor, and packed my car full to the brim of all the remaining things, Josh and I started driving from Renton southward towards Californis. My car was loaded to an insane amount as shown below!
Josh and I started skinning up the Avalanche Gully route as twilight began. At about 12,000 feet we ditched the skis and booted the rest of the way up the excellent snow. It was just steeper than I wanted to ski back down. While breezy, as soon as I reached the summit it was calm and I enjoyed a 30 minute stay enjoying the views. Josh continued up after a brief nap and summitted about an hour after I started down. The ski down to the car was perfect.
