Since I was still a noob and I was in a cast due to a broken wrist I wasn't able to advance very much in mountaineering in the summer of 2010 but I still wanted to get outside so I decided to do a solo hike up to Flapjack Lakes. I drove out very early and got to the Staircase Trailhead on Lake Cushman before the entrance booth even opened. I started up the very gentle Skokomish River trail which was a beautiful hike through a dense rainforest and after 4 miles I reached the junction with the Donahue Creek trail which leads to Flapjack Lakes. I was able to get a bunch of nice waterfall photos the whole hike up to the lakes. The last part of the trail still had some snow but nothing bad. Once at the lakes I saw a few campers who had packed in. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get good photos of the nearby peaks due to bad lighting. Mount Cruiser towered above the lakes though. After I got some nice panoramas, I returned back down the trail.
