fletcher mountain - 13951' - class 2
september 2011
This was a very quick morning climb I did on a Tuesday before class. I drove out the night before and slept in the car. By sunrise I was on my way hiking past the Blue Lakes Reservoir and up into the Monte Cristo Basin along the southern base of Quandary Peak. I hiked up the creek and up talus and some slabs aiming for the saddle between Fletcher and Quandary. Once at the saddle, I could see the west ridge of Quandary very well which looked like a fun scramble route. I continued up the southern face of Fletcher Mountain up steep but stable talus to the summit which I reached after only a couple hours from the car. It was still early and chilly but the views of all the surrounding basins and peaks with peak fall foliage was something to remember. I will surely remember this morning jaunt for a long time to come. Colorado in the fall is spectacular. I easily retraced my steps back to the car and made a leisurely drive back to Golden taking lots of foliage photos along the way.
